D.H. Lawrence

D.H. Lawrence (1885-1930) spent his early life in and around Eastwood, a small mining community in Nottinghamshire. The earthy place and its charismatic people provided Lawrence with a rich source for his writing, the bulk of which he produced after he moved to London. Lawrence’s candid, passionate and sometimes brutally depictive works have always courted scandal. The most famous of these was the indecency trial brought against Lady Chatterley’s Lover and its publisher, Penguin, in the 1960s. The book was given a favourable verdict and was instantly de rigueur for the chic and a treat for the curious.

Read by renowned British actors Emilia Fox, Robert Powell and Bob Peck.
