Praise for The Creative Act:
This book is a companion to anyone on the creative path; for me, Rick Rubin's attention, consideration, ideas have dug themselves down deep into my consciousness and grown with my work, so that over time, I have found myself in the shelter of a huge resplendent tree, and remembered that it all started with a word or two from a person who really, really listened. May it start something similar in you
Kae Tempest
A gorgeous and inspiring work of art on creation, creativity, the work of the artist. It will gladden the hearts of writers and artists everywhere, and get them working again with a new sense of meaning and direction. A stunning accomplishment

FROM SUNDAY TIMES AND NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR RICK RUBIN
For thousands of years, the Tao Te Ching – or ‘The Way’ – by the Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu has offered a message of living in harmony with the underlying nature of things. Now Rick Rubin, the legendary music producer and bestselling author of The Creative Act, has adapted Lao Tzu’s seminal text for the age of machine intelligence: as a spiritual and artistic guide for navigating life as we grapple with the today’s most cutting-edge technology.
The Tao Te Ching has always been my favorite of all the spiritual texts. I’ve read it over and over for forty years. Each time you pick up the book, you’ll interpret it in a new way. Anyone who comes into contact with this 2,500-year-old information, will be changed by it. I hope this new version will serve as a roadmap to engage with new technology while remaining grounded in timeless wisdom.
Featuring 81 original works of art generated from the book’s text by graphic designer David Pearson and design engineer Lucas Seidenfaden, The Way of Code is an ancient meditation, remixed for modern times – a volume of inspiration on how to create balance in life, on the planet, and in our work.

FROM SUNDAY TIMES AND NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR RICK RUBIN
Each encounter I’ve had with Lao Tzu has pointed to something new. Almost as if the book changes with every reading. I first picked up Stephen Mitchell’s translation 40 years ago at the Bodhi Tree bookstore in Los Angeles and my life has never been quite the same.
This is how art creation always happens.
It starts with a prompt, a seed. It can be several sentences or something you notice on a walk. Anything can work as a first prompt. Only you can decide that.
The world around you is pregnant with potential points of entry on your creative quest. Now find a seed and start modelling and modifying until you have something you’re excited to share.
The Way of Code features 81 unique artworks made by graphic designer David Pearson and design engineer Lucas Seidenfaden. Via a process of data encoding each image is informed directly by the page of writing it faces; fusing language, art and data with a strange alchemy.
